What is HCG And How Can It Benefit Your Life?
What Is HCG?
We’ve all tried diets in the past and know how difficult it can be to lose weight and keep it off. The HCG diet plan isn’t the newest fad, miracle cure, or food delivery service. In fact, the HCG diet has been around since the 1950’s when the protocol was created by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons but what is HCG?
Simply put, the HCG hormone allows you to maintain a very low calorie diet (VLCD), while eliminating hunger pangs. The easy-to-take hormone allows your body to unlock stored fat around the midsection (hips, belly, bottom, and thighs) as well as the upper arms. We provide you with not only HCG, but the step-by-step specifics of the diet. You will know when to start, what to eat, how to track your progress, and all the information you need to safely transition off of the diet once you have reached your goal.
The History Behind The HCG Diet
What is HCG? HCG, also known as Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, is a hormone that is produced by pregnant women by the placenta. It is a glycoprotein that is made up of 244 amino acids. HCG also helps the body create progesterone and helps line the uterus with a thick wall of blood vessels and capillaries to assist the growing fetus. HCG has been used to treat infertility in women and to increase sperm count in men. It has been found that HCG regulates the brain set point for hunger and also how your body metabolizes fat. HCG alerts the body to release stored fat when needed. This is apparent in pregnant women who have severe morning sickness or live an unhealthy lifestyle. They are still able to go full term and have a healthy baby.
Dr. Simeons researched the HCG diet for many years, as he was an endocrinologist, which is a doctor that studies the endocrine system, the diseases involved, along with the hormones the endocrine system creates. By studying the endocrine system and hormones that go along with it, Dr. Simeons was able to fine-tune the HCG diet so it worked for obese and overweight patients. In Pounds and Inches, he also states that patients that only need to lose 5lbs can also do the diet. However, it’s not recommended to do the diet if you have a BMI under 20. He did note that you must be on the diet a minimum of 23 days in order to properly ‘reset’ your hypothalamus, so that it communicates properly with your body ending that craving for food that can happen when the hypothalamus is not working properly. Dr. Simeons was hoping to cure obesity once and for all with the HCG diet. He researched endless amounts of pharmaceuticals to see if any of them had any effect on ‘fixing’ the diencephalon, but none of them came close to actually fixing the problem. The only ones that he noticed that helped with weight loss and hunger were the amphetamines, but in the end they didn’t fix the actual problem. Not only did they not fix the actual problem, they come with a long list of negative side effects such as rapid heart rate, increased insomnia, and possible tremors. When researching the HCG diet, Dr. Simeons noticed that there were no proven long term or short-term side effects. As a doctor, he was able to review his patient’s health and history to ensure they were in the proper shape to start a new diet program. And even now, it’s always recommended that you speak with your physician before starting any new diet program.
The Science Behind HCG
In Pounds and Inches, the manuscript that Dr. A.T.W. Simeons wrote in regards to the HCG diet, he mentions that the diencephalon is the part of the brain that controls the automatic functions in the body. The diencephalon is made up of 4 components, which are the thalamus, the subthalamus, the hypothalamus, and the epithalamus. When the diencephalon is damaged in animals, they have shown an increase in weight. HCG communicates with the diencephalon, more specifically the hypothalamus, letting it know when to release any abnormal stored fat. The abnormal stored fat can be found in your arms, hips, back, etc. This is not the fat that is surrounding your organs to ensure that you are healthy.
The hypothalamus is responsible for the control of food intake. When the hypothalamus is not working properly, you can feel an uncontrollable hunger, which can lead to weight gain long term. When on the HCG diet, the HCG communicates with the hypothalamus along with the endocrine gland and the metabolic system. Typically if a person is overweight, and does not have any other health issues, their hypothalamus gland is not receiving the communication it needs to function properly. It’s holding onto the abnormal fat, in a term Dr. Simeons uses called a Fat Bank. When the fat bank is full, the normal fat reserves used for energy are held at a minimum while the remaining surplus of fat is stored away in our abnormal fat reserves. When we take in an excess of calories and fat, but don’t manage to burn them during the day, our body must store them causing individuals to be overweight or obese.
When researching HCG in a variety of clients, Dr. Simeons noticed that when a patient was put on a low dose of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) coupled with a low calorie diet, that the client started to lose weight quickly. He also noticed that they were not losing muscle mass, just abnormal fat that had been stored away. While on the HCG diet, Dr. Simeons noticed a permanent change in the function of the diencephalon, particularly the hypothalamus. He saw that his patients could keep the weight they lost off long term, rather than having to yo-yo diet. He also noticed that in some cases, while weight may not have been lost, it may have helped move the abnormal fat more evenly throughout the body. There is a portion in the Pounds & Inches manuscript in regards to The Emaciated Lady. A woman sat down in his office looking sickly. He thought she may have cancer and was wondering which one of his colleagues he could refer her to. When she explained that she wanted to reduce he was confused by her answer. But when she stood up, he noticed that she may have a tiny waist, but she had enormous hips & thighs. By using the HCG diet, he managed to transfer the abnormal fat from her hips and thighs to the rest of her body. After 5 weeks on the program, she did not lose any weight, however she lost 8 inches around her hips and her skin looked fresh and healthy.
The HCG diet has helped hundreds of thousands of people lose weight since it was first published. Dr. Simeons spend countless hours working on this diet to ensure its safety and overall success.
