Constipation on the HCG Diet

Is it Normal to Have Constipation on the HCG Diet

Yes, It is Normal to have Constipation on the HCG Diet

While on the HCG diet and consuming 500 calories a day, you may notice your bowel movements are starting to become irregular. Some people might notice that they are having far less bowel movements, while others might notice it has stopped all together. This can be uncomfortable and cause some worry, but rest assured having constipation on the HCG diet, can be normal.

Because you are only consuming 500 calories, bowel movements tend to slow down. The HCG is breaking up you stored body fat, which it then uses for energy. But, with constipation comes discomfort and sometimes stomach pain. There are some things you can do to prevent constipation. We have come up with a list of things you can do to help with constipation on the HCG diet.

Foods to Help with Constipation on the HCG Diet

If you are experiencing constipation, first things first, don’t take a laxative or any other form of stool softeners. They can actually harm your results and cause you to stop losing weight for a while. Usually stool softeners have some type of added ingredient (usually sugar) that is not allowed on the diet. So it is best to stay away from them.

It is important to choose your foods wisely if your constipation is making you uncomfortable. Try and stick to the fiber rich foods on the diet, such as spinach, cabbage, or apples. Try mixing up your foods a little bit more too, if you can don’t eat the same food twice in a day.

Liquids Help with Constipation on the HCG Diet

One of the most important things you can do is increase your water. The more water you drink, the better it will help flush your system. If you are not already, make sure you are drinking at least half of your body weight in ounces of water a day.

If none of those tips seem to be helping, after a few days, you can also try Smooth Move Tea. This tea can be purchased at most grocery stores or a health food store. You will have a glass of it at night before bed and you should have a bowel movement in the morning.

Remember, it is normal to experience constipation because of the low amount of  calories. But, if you are worried about it, please visit your doctor.
